Post a question or comment about Gillnetting to our online boating community.
I would like to upgrade to a better system without having to buy a whole new reel, what would you recomend?
I have a chain driven reel with charlin motor. It does not pull hard enough and bleads out when pulling. I would like to upgrade to a better system without having to buy a whole new reel, what would you recomend? thanks, Mark Answer I am familiar with gillnet drums having owned 3 already. But, I’d give our specialist Kal Harris a call. He handles our hydraulics for commercial fisherman. He spends a lot of time at InMac which took over Kolstrand products. He also understands gillnet drums. You may need to tell him the size of the Charlynn if you can so he can mach the speeds, etc. His number at InMac is 206 784 2500. I’m sure he can set you up with the new motor (and perhaps a new valve if it is by passing oil?) FYI, with the same hydraulic circuit, you can pull harder but at a slower speed. So you may want to get a little more oil available. But no worries, Kal has handle many of these situations and can surely help you.
