Global Internet access while sailing?
Can anyone advise of good global Internet equipment and/or provider access option§? Tried Clearwire, Alaska’a ACS and AT&T, but need to find service that is accessable anywhere in world’s ocean areas, if possible. Submitted by: C.Hunter
There are really only 2 ways to do this. 1. Through shortwave signals
2. Through satellite Either way, you are going to need to get some equipment. Internet through shortwave is slow (it comes through a phone line (or data line), to a relay for shortwave). Satellite, like the Iridium Phone Service, is faster, but very expensive still. Here is a communication forum on the subject. I have used sailmail.com.
