Seacocks and Ball Valves can be used to control the outflow of water for the hull of a boat or ship. Ball Valves screw onto the threads of the thru-hull while a seacock has a flange bolted or screwed to a fairing block that is fixed to the hull through which the thru-hull passes. Seacocks are less likely to be broken than Ball Valves and are thus, the preferred method of closing off water on a ship.
