Thermostat Size, Type...?
I have a GM 1988 mercrusier with a Thermostat housing P/N 16413-C, and I cannot find anywhere the right size thermostat that fits this housing. I think it’s either 18-3648, or 18-3551, but that’s only by looking at the pictures on the website, can you please tell me the right P/N, and the proper o-ring, etc? Submitted by: Craig
The number you find on the actual housing is not the complete number published by Mercury. It could be 16413A or 16413A 9. However, neither of these housings are available any longer from Mercury. If the housing needs replaced, you can use a Substitute Thermostat Housing 87290A23. In order to find a thermostat only, we will need the model number and serial number from your 1988 GM engine since there are many different Mercruiser engines which used the 16413A 9.
GM Big Block 1988 Thermostat housing and replacement parts
Hi, I’m trying to replace the thermostat in my 1988 Malibu Sunsetter. It’s a GM big block, and the thermostat housing is a one pcs monster with 6 diff hose connections. On some other sites it looks like the so called "new", but the P/N is 16413-C and all the listing on "new” do not include my version-C. The housing is old, but fine, I’m trying to get the right thermostat, I think its 18-3648 by your picture. Can you please confirm which thermostat will fit into 16413-C on my Mercruiser? Normal running temperature for a Mercruiser?
My Mercruiser is a 1988 350 Magnum, engine number OF083708.
The book indicates a thermostat of 143F. But my normal running temperature is 100F.
My mechanic says he has installed a low temperature thermostat for safety.
Please advise if this will damage the engine. Answer The lower temp will not damage the engine, it may not run to optimum specifications due to the cooler temp but even that is doubtful. Submitted by: bryan
