tmd40 oil cooler
Marine application: is it possible to bypass the raw water oil cooler or install an external heat exchanger? Is the oil cooler mandatory? Submitted by: jake
Yes, you need an oil cooler. You can by-pass the original cooler and use an external high pressure cooler. Your biggest challenge will be finding the correct fittings for the lines. You might want to check some Volvo blogs.

Can I use a Johnson water pump instead of a Jabsco or Volvo?
I have a 5.7 l with a volvo 290 leg. The engine is a rebuild and therefore reference AQ290 for parts. Can I use The Johnson Pumps Series F5B-9 and get the same gal per minute as Jabsco or Volvo penta pumps? Submitted by: don
The Johnson Pump F5B-9 is an alternative that will work just fine. These pumps have enough flow rate to cool adequately.

raw water pump
I have a 1976 OMC inboard 350-260hp that needs a raw water pump since it is no longer mfg. Can I convert this to Johnson crank mounted pump? If so, which one?24232 or 24228 or 24805? Submitted by: Bob
24228 is an option. You will have to do a little work but the pump will work fine. You want part number Johnson Pumps Series F5B-9
