Upper Gear case plug on my 1987 Starcraft I/O with a OMC Cobra stern drive - I lost the nut!
I have a 1987 Starcraft I/O with a OMC Cobra stern drive. Where the OMC Outboard Marine Corporation circle decal emblem used to be on the Upper gear case Vertical drive there was a plug with a screw. I unscrewed it and it was a mistake. The screw evidently had a nut that got lost inside. The plug measures about 1 & 1/8th inch and appeared to be plastic. Is this a freeze plug and where do I get one to replace it? Submitted by: Gary
You will need to make sure you remove the nut from the drive since it will destroy the internals if you leave it. I believe the plug is an oil indicator plug and the nut behind should not have come loose.The best thing to do is contact your local OMC dealer for the replacement part.
