Question
Thermostat

I have a 1972 Chrysler 318 marine inboard. Pulled thermostat and it is the fresh water model rather than raw water model. Why, I do not know. Can I go with a standard marine 160 degree thermostat rather than the fresh water model?

Answer

If the engine has a closed cooling system with Prestone in the block you can use a standard thermostat. If the block has sea water running thru it you need a marine thermostat
