heat exchanger to Yanmar diesel
I would like a heat exchanger to heat hot water for shower/dishes on 44’ sailboat. Engine is Yanmar 40hp diesel. I want it to heat water if the engine is at idle but long enough for the engine water temp to hit normal 220 degrees. The water heater I have requires minimum 1 hr run time under load to heat the water. I had an older exchanger that could heat the water 15 min. at idle. What do you recommend? Would like 8-10 gal capacity in holding tank.

220 degrees seems too high. The water won’t get any higher than the engine thermostat allows. Are you looking for a new engine heat exchanger? Have you thought about an electric water heater?
