Question
Determine how much I need to shim to drive gear...

How do I use a feeler guage to determine how much I need to shim to drive gear in the upper unit of a Stringer outdrive? And I was told that the bearing and race on the same gear shaft is also manufactured by Timken, any idea what part number Timken ?

Answer

We don’t have a cross reference to Timkin. You can’t use a feeler gauge to shim gears. You have to install the gear blue the teeth rotate and check the wear pattern. We suggest you purchase a Seloc repair manual. It will cover this procedure.
