6BT5.9M Raw Water Pump
My Cummins 6BT 5.9M-DR (210) has ongoing over heating problems above about 2000rpm summer temps. I have done all the standard fixes to solve the problem (re-pitch the prop, professionally clean the heat exchangers, re-route exhaust to minimize back pressure, replaced thermostat and fresh water pump. I have also replaced the raw water pump impeller and cam) I have not worked the in block oil cooler or replaced the raw water pump. My research tells me that a Sherwood M71 is the correct pump, but this pump as also listed as correct for a 4BT 210hp engine. That does not make good sense to me. My Cummins Parts Catalog shows the correct part number as 3912019 or a Sherwood P1715 (Obsolete Sherwood nr). What is the right pump? Can I up size to create more flow? Make sure the prop is pitched to run the correct rpms at full throttle. You can check exhaust temperature with a pyrometer. Is the exhaust manifold water cooled? If so there may be a restriction.
AC idler pulley

The rebuild kit for this pump is no longer available. You will have to replace the complete pump. It is only available from a Cummins Dealer.
