my quick G 1000 D became slow
After using my QUICK G 100D horizontal winch for 4 years, it became slow. Is there anything I can do to service it or it needs replacement?? Submitted by: dimitris
There is two things that can cause an electric motor to slow down (act tired). One, check the electrical wire - is it getting how? Are the relays getting how? corrosion? Two, there is a lubrication / wear issue. Are all the mechanical parts moving freely? Check that there is no binding or drag.
lighthouse windlass

Yes, the motor can be purchased separately.
There is also a kit that allows you to remove the 12v motor and replace it with the entire hydraulic system that would have come with an original Hydraulic Lighthouse Windlass (valves, control box, wiring, motor, adapter and shaft).

I have a 46 maxum, I am looking at a new winch, can you tell me which are better, vertical or horizontal models? I want it for light to heavy weather, I am running a 27kg s/s plough anchor. Submitted by: darren
I think keeping with a windlass of the same design will work for you. If in doubt, I always tell people to size up (especially for coastal). No one ever complains about powerful windlass; they complain about a small one that gets burned out.
The Concept 1 held 5/16 chain and up to 9/16 rope.
It had a 1433 lb max pull with a 100 lb working load
It seems a bit light for your boat - no doubt why the other one failed and was missing the parts.
I would suggest something more along the line of the Aries Windlass.

I have never heard of the windlass - is it old? There is unlikely a parts supplier there.
