Seattle, WA -- With the vast number of parts and accessories available to today's boater, whether the captain of a recreational or a commercial vessel, not to mention the hundreds of watercraft models, styles and retrofitting specifications, managing a database for the marine products industry is an oceanic task. Add hundreds of 3-D, exploded-view technical diagrams demonstrating how the parts all fit together and you've got a database challenge quite unlike any other.
To meet the challenge of surpassing 100,000 products available online at its industry-acclaimed Gomarine.com web site, Mariner Supply has hired Renee Van Winkle, formerly of Sun Microsystems, as the company's new Database and Network Administrator.
Van Winkle arrived at Go2marine with over 14 years of industry experience, ranging from dotcom start-ups to large corporations. Ms. Van Winkle was Vice President of Internet Services at the industry acclaimed Online Career Center in its infancy and helped position OCC.com for purchase by Monster.com where it became the leading online job and resume Website on the Internet.
While at Sun Microsystems, Van Winkle was a Systems Engineer and served as Sun's Global Technology Manager for various Fortune 500 companies. She holds a B.S. in Business from Indiana University and a M.S. in Information and Communication Sciences from Ball State University.
"Renee's experience will be a key factor in the evolution of Go2marine's technology to meet our continued growth in marine products' sales and customer service," remarked Hal Cook, Mariner Supply president. "We built the foundation of our online, e-commerce system on Sun's Java technology to facilitate large-scale product integration and expansion. Van Winkle's experience as a Sun System's Engineer will contribute to making our platform the most robust and reliable for our customers worldwide."
