Vetus, Bow Thruster 210 Lbf 12V Ignition Protected, BOW9512I. To allow stern thrusters installations in gasoline powered boats to be made safely, Vetus has developed sealed motor housing kits, meeting the requirement of the ISO 8846 Marine standard (ignition protection). Each set consists of (apart from the bow thrusters) a watertight housing (IP65) for the electric motor and its relays, seals, and electrical connectors and fastening components. In addition, a circuit breaker is supplied, accessible without opening the motor housing.
It is not safe to install a conventional electric stern thruster in the engine room, or compartment containing fuel tanks, of a gasoline powered boat, as gasoline fumes may be ignited by internal sparking in the thrusters motor.
Lightweight, low mass plastic propellers attain maximum thrust quickly, do not corrode, and are designed for low cavitation and to provide equal thrust in both directions
Single propeller designs come up to speed faster, have fewer components, and provide the same efficiency as hard-to-tune dual propeller thrusters
Thruster motors are designed for continuous running at top speed for several minutes, and for easier installation can be mounted in any orientation, relative to the propeller
Noise reduction is a key feature through special design considerations
Streamlined drive housing/tailpiece increases efficiency and reduces noise, as does the use of gears instead of chain in the transmission
All thrusters are supplied with a zinc anode for corrosion protection of the bronze gear housing/tailpiece
Vetus tunnels come in a variety of materials and are designed to be as small as possible for less resistance underway while maximizing thruster efficiency
A variety of tunnels, control panels, circuit protectors and accessories are available, all purchased separately
