Traditional, economical packing. In use, flax packing has a limited lifespan as its fibers naturally degrade in seawater over time, and its natural lubricants break down from the heat generated by the rotating shaft. This inevitably results in the packing hardening, shrinking, and leaking. Rated to 176°F; rotation speed of 2,000 ft⁄min. Color is yellowish-brown • Teflon® (PTFE)⁄Flax packing is braided from flax roving impregnated with Teflon. Offers high performance and extended packing life. A big step up from traditional flax packing. Although the underlying flax matrix is still subject to degradation over time, the Teflon lubricants last longer because they are resistant to the frictional heat generated by the rotating shaft. Rated to 482°F; rotation speed of 2,400 ft⁄min. Color is off-white • Tefpack synthetic shaft packing is a unique product. It is constructed from a strong, durable synthetic yarn impregnated with Teflon. This yarn is not subject to attack by mildew, making it rot resistant and providing longer service life and superior performance. Rated to 500°F; rotation speed of 3,000 ft⁄min. Color is dark gray • Graphtex Ultra (GTU) is a blend of ultra-slippery W. L. Gore fibers and graphite braided fibers, impregnated with Teflon to produce a packing that will give the ultimate level of performance. This packing has a high thermal conductivity, providing superior heat dissipation and cooler shaft temperatures. Made of a synthetic fiber, it doesn't degrade over time, and remains soft, pliable and dimensionally stable throughout its life. Perfect for modern, high RPM applications.
