When caring for teak on your boat, it's important to follow a proper sequence of steps. Here's what you need to know:
1. Cleaning and Brightening
Start by cleaning the teak using a teak cleaner. After that, you can opt for an optional step of using a brightener like Teak Brite Brightener. This will lighten the teak's shade and remove any residue left from the cleaning process.
2. Oiling/Sealing:
Once the teak is cleaned, you can proceed to apply a teak oil sealer to protect it from dirt and stains. BoatLIFE offers two options: Teak Brite Teak Oil Sealer - Natural Color (clear) for a lighter tone, and Teak Brite Teak Oil Sealer - Golden Color for a mellowed golden look. Apply the teak oil sealer using a soft cloth, toweling, or sponge brush, making sure to spread it evenly and wipe off any excess to avoid puddling.
Remember, proper application is key - using too much teak oil can result in a varnished effect or uneven weathering. Allow the teak to dry thoroughly before applying the sealer, ideally giving it 24 hours on a dry sunny day.
By following these steps, you can maintain the beauty and longevity of your teak deck.
