Go2marine offers shaft seals from two industry leading Shaft Seal Manufaturers, PYI and Lasdrop.
PSS Shaft Seals by PYI
The PSS Shaft Seal helps to eliminate water in the bilge (100% water tight) & wear to the propeller shaft. The PSS Shaft Seal can be easily retrofitted and is available for shafts ranging from 3/4" (20mm) to 8" (205mm). Certified by Bureau Veritas, ABS & Rina. Boat builders and Ship yards recognize the advantages and value of installing the PSS as it eliminates the maintenance, constant adjustment & cost associated with traditional packing type glands.
The PSS Shaft Seal is a mechanical face seal that is created between the flat surfaces of the rotating stainless steel rotor and the stationary carbon flange. The stationary carbon flange is attached to the vessels stern tube with hose clamps and the carbon flange is attached to the front side of the bellows with hose clamps. The stainless steel rotor is fit on the shaft in front of the carbon flange.
The stainless steel rotor is used to compress the bellows before the collar is secured to the shaft with set-screws. This compression (pre-load) maintains contact between the faces and allows the PSS to compensate for the thrust from the propeller. The carbon flange is bored larger than the shaft diameter allowing it to “float” around the shaft and thus compensate for most misalignment and vibration problems. The stainless steel collar is sealed to the shaft by two o-rings that are recessed into the bore of the collar. These o-rings rotate with the shaft and stainless steel rotor and do not experience wear during operation.
Lasdrop has been making shaft seals since 1975, and Lasdrop Shaft seals have become widely used by both commercial and recreational boaters who value a reliable and durable shaft seal. All three of Lasdrop models are easy to install, require little maintenance and are sold in complete kits, accompanied by a manufactures three-year warranty. Lasdrop shaft seals come in sizes range from 3/4" to 8" shafts, with metric and custom sizes available.
Lasdrop Shaft Seals have dual injection ports* (for 1-1/8"+) and contain all necessary hardware
*For TWIN ENGINE INSTALLATION There will be 2 injection ports with all necessary hose and hardware provided in each kit. *For SINGLE ENGINE INSTALLATION There also will be 2 injection ports but we will provide a plug in the kit to change over to single water injection. Seals under 1-1/8" will be fitted with a single port unless otherwise specified by the customer.
GOOD: The Lasdrop DrySeal Shaft Seal features a compact, economical lip seal design that can be installed quickly and easily. As in all Lasdrop seals, the unit incorporates a cutlass bearing in the housing to keep the unit properly aligned with the shaft.
BETTER: The Original "Bellows" Shaft Seal features a vibration-absorbing bellows ideal for use on sailboats, powerboats or workboats. The "Bellows" shaft seal is constructed of "ArmorFlex" Bellows, 3 layers of fiberglass cloth and super-longlasting vulcanized silicone for durability that also resists heat and diesel fuel.
BEST: Lasdrop's Gen II Dripless Shaft Seal offers a unique ball-bearing drive system that allows the seal ring to "float" and remain in constant contact with the carbon graphite seal surface. The result is a seal that's impenetrable to water.
