High build equals cost savings Amershield’s greater film thickness not only protects steel and concrete surfaces better, it’s more cost effective than conventional alkyds or polyurethanes. With a 5-mil DFT, Amershield achieves more with a single coat than traditional alkyds do with three coats, saving significant labor costs.

Long-lasting gloss and color With most coatings, high-volume solids and high-gloss finish are not compatible features. But Amershield has both. Its excellent flow-out characteristics yield a high-build, long-lasting, durable industrial finish. In tough accelerated weathering tests against three conventional coatings (a high-performance alkyd, a polyester urethane and an epoxy), Amershield significantly outperformed all three, retaining far more of its original gloss.

Versatile and easy to apply In protected environments, apply Amershield directly to metal in a single coat. Spray, brush or roll Amershield over clean, blasted, or phosphatized steel, as well as many other substrates, including aluminum and masonry. For maximum corrosion resistance and durability, use it as a topcoat over anti-corrosive primers. Amershield can also be used as a refresher coat over intact, old paint in most situations.

Outstanding abrasion resistance When it comes to abrasion resistance, Amershield outclasses conventional polyurethanes. When subjected to the CS-17 abrasive wheel test against three popular coatings, Amershield’s loss rate was a third less than the conventional aliphatic urethane and less than half that of the best non-urethane product, a conventional epoxy. The reason for this outstanding performance is Amershield’s high-build film, which is twice as thick as a standard aliphatic urethane. Only costly, hard-to-apply elastomeric polyurethane claddings have a better abrasion resistance than easy-to-apply Amershield.

Corrosion resistant Amershield delivers far better barrier properties and corrosion resistance than conventional polyurethanes. Amershield provides not only an attractive decorative finish but a level of corrosion protection that makes it eminently suitable for general industrial use, with significantly better performance results than competitive polyurethanes. Amershield also resists splash and spillage of a wide range of chemicals and environmental conditions that can cause conventional decorative coatings to fail.
