In the world of sport fishing, who hasn’t heard of Scotty downriggers? Or Scotty rod holders, downrigger cables and other downrigger parts? Even Davy Jones no doubt has a Scotty downrigger or two squirreled away in his soggy locker, along with a few rod holders and extra downrigger cable.

 

That’s because in the last 70-plus years Scotty sport fishing products have become a ubiquitous part of the sport fishing and equipment space. You might say Blayney and Almeda Scott were ahead of their time. In 1952 the forward-thinking couple started a small company in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada that used plastics in the manufacturing of salmon fishing lures and other marine products. Since then, Scotty’s products and the demand for them has skyrocketed into a global business built on innovative, quality products and customer service.

 

Almost every job at Scotty is done in house, from assembly, packaging, and shipping to marketing and sales. Keeping a hands-on approach, they minimize outsourcing components, don’t produce single-use disposable products, and recycle and reuse materials as much as possible.
