Gill Net, Cork and Weighted Line

 

We not only supply corklines, weedlines, leadlines and twines to outfit your gillnet, we produce gillnets in house. Contact our Commerical Netting Division for custom gillnets and other specilty nets. Corkline is the upper line of a gill net having cork or other floats at intervals to give the net buoyancy. Samson makes a few different high strength low elongating polyester cork lines like the H/P Dura Pacificmaster.

 

Longlines and Gangions

 

A longline is a heavy fishing line that may be many miles long and that has baited hooks in series. A gangion is one of the short lengths of moderate-weight line that bear hooks and are attached at regular intervals to the groundline of a setline by beckets by heavy twine. Samson makes a solid braid longline which is 30–35% higher in strength than the equivalent polypropylene construction.

 

Purse Seine Lines

 

A purse seine is a large wall of netting set around an entire area or school of fish. The seine has floats along the top purse line with a lead line threaded through rings along the bottom. Once a school of fish is spotted, a skiff encircles the school with the net. The lead line is then pulled in, "pursing" the net closed on the bottom, preventing fish from escaping by swimming downward. Samson's 12-Strand Amsteel floating rope is often used in seine applications as it has extremly low stretch, excellent abrasion resistance and low stretch.

 

Trawl Line

 

Trawling is a method of fishing that involves pulling a fishing net through the water behind one or more boats. The net used for trawling is called a trawl. Samson Amsteel BLue Rope is a very popular line used in a variety of applications including trawling due to is high strength and floatability.
