Boat BBQ
Hearing the word barbecue invokes a feeling of contentment that can’t be explained. Cooking on an open fire is undoubted one of the most satisfying and relaxing activities we can experience. This of course can be argued, but even with those stressful BBQ days when the hamburgers charr or the steaks catch fire, will not hesitate to do it again. Having a BBQ onboard is even more rewarding because of the surrounding, of its relative ease and it helps reduce the cooking smells inside. In the event we are fortunate to retrieve some bounty from the waters, be it a fish, crab, lobster or any other morsel the waters afford us, the thought of placing it directly on the BBQ is a hands down winner and ads to a perfect day on the water.
We are fortunate that there are choices when looking for a good BBQ boat grill. Marine BBQ grills appear more costly when compared to something available at the large box stores, but do not be fooled. Boat BBQs from manufactures such as ‘Dickinson Marine®’, ‘Kuuma®’ or ‘Magma®’ are made with good quality stainless that will last a long time especially in the harsh marine environment. These manufacturers also provide reliable support with a sizable portfolio of spare parts. Replacing parts of a Boat BBQs is relative easy and straight forward and does not require any specialized tools or skill.
Charcoal BBQ
For the chef who enjoys a traditional charcoal boat BBQ ‘Magma Marine’ offers a small kettle BBQ that uses either BBQ briquettes or traditional charcoal. This type of BBQ does not use propane which for many a sailor is frowned upon because of its inherent risk of explosion aboard vessels.
Propane BBQ
For the chef that would rather not mess with charcoal, lighter fluid and ash the alternative is propane. Propane boat BBQs are by far the most popular. The smaller BBQs are typically designed to attach to the rail and have the BBQ as far outboard as it practicable. For the larger units mounting it to the railing is less practical and are intended to place them on a reasonably flat surface. All the propane BBQ units are designed to use the disposable propane cylinders.
BBQ Parts and Accessories
Boat BBQ grill parts are easy to come by. Go2marine stocks replacement parts that tend to deteriorate from use such as replacement burner tubes, propane regulators or the piezo igniters. No BBQ is complete without adding some type of handy accessory. Handy trays that attach to the front end of the BBQ that can accommodate the cooking utensils or act as a cutting board are available for all the major brands as well as nifty BBQ covers to protect the grill from the elements and keep it clean. Another important BBQ requirement are the utensils. A good cleaning brush, a pair of tongs and maybe a long handles fork are all good tools to have that make barbequing on board so much pleasurable and memorable.
