Deck Plates

Deck plates or inspection plates are generally used as ingress for inspections, to access a void or even gain access into a tank. Depending on the application a designer has a large selection from which to choose such as different sizes, different materials and different construction. Sea-Dog, Beckson Marine and Bomar all produce deck plates that are standard on most vessels.

Choosing a deck plate for a specific location should be thoroughly researched because deck plates vary from robust and water poof to light duty and weather proof. Installing a deck plate that is not up to the task might have undesirable results. Synthetic deck plates are commonly found in smaller boats and kayaks whereas metal deck plates are typically found on larger vessels. Deck plates might require a wrench to remove the cap or the cap is manufactures with a built-in protrusion to aid in removal. Tethering a deck plate cap to the frame with a lanyard is not common so care should be exercised when removing a deck plate. To find the best replacement deckplate, measure the inside-diameter of your opening for best fit. When installing a deck plate, a good sealant is recommended to prevent any water-intrusion.
