A perpetual headache

I've always used Racor but be careful - the plastic bits break easily. My previous Racor broke at the drain valve due to very slight overtightening, and then with this brand new one I bought, the water bowl couldn't be separated from the filter because they extremely overtightened it at the factory (it's supposed to be just hand tight).

I first tried a filter wrench / strap wrench and when that didn't work, stepped up to a hammer with a wood block and drift punches. That didn't work, so I guess next step would've been a bench vise and breaker bar. But the hammer and drift broke a tab off the plastic bowl first. You shouldn't need a bench vise and breaker bar to unscrew the plastic bowl. In fact they should ship it disassembled!
