Boat Prep Checklist

Safety should always be your first concern before hitting the water. LFS has put together a checklist of what you should inspect, replace or service before heading underway.
Print this page (pdf)- Check engine and water hoses for cracks and leaks. Replace with Trident Marine hose as needed.
- Flush antifreeze from your water systems.
- Change your oil using the proper Sierra Oil and replace your oil filter with the appropriate Sierra Filter.
- Test your bilge pump. Consider replacing with a new Rule-Mate Bilge Pump if necessary.
- Check your boat's hull for any damage. Repair as needed.
- Clean and scrape the bottom of your boat if it is accessible. Consider painting your hull with Pettit HRT Antifouling Paint.
- Check windows and lights for any indication of leaks. Seal as needed.
- Lubricate winches, anchor windlass, blocks, and pad eyes.
- Check and replace Anodes ("zincs") as needed.
- Check engine belts and replace as needed.
- Check transmission fluid levels and quality.
- Check spark plugs and replace as needed.
- Change the gear lube if you didn't during winterization.
- Check battery, clean battery terminals, and top up with distilled water if need.
- Verify that all your marine electronic devices are working and communicating properly.
- Finally, improve your engines performance and rejuvenate old fuel with Star Tron Fuel Treatment.
