I have a 1990 30 hp mariner and it wont fire… everybody tells me its either the coil or cdi box.. well after two weeks of ordering parts the guy finds a coil that looks pretty close but isnt exact we put it on and it does the same thing. somehow we find out there is a gas problem so he cleans the carburator out and theres just a little bit of stuff in it.. so then it fires right up with the old coil.. we let it run for a lil while and everything seems fine.. the next time i take it to the river it runs for 10 sec and does the same thing.. i let someone else look at it today and he tells me straight up that it is an elec. problem probably the cdi box and it cranking up like that was just a fluke that if it was the carb it should at least try to spit and sputter!

Trying to diagnose from here is hard to do but a CDI box is a definite possibility.
